Since joining SCI in 2005, Jeff Kimbell has been deeply engaged in both international and domestic political activities. He served as Chairman of the Hunter Defense Fund (HDF) from 2012 to 2014, Chairman of the SCI-PAC from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2021 to 2024, and Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, Jeff has contributed to the Convention Committee in 2013, 2014, and 2016, primarily assisting with live music acts and VIPs at the national convention, first in Las Vegas and now in Nashville.
Jeff's shooting career began at age eight with a Daisy one-pump BB gun, participating in indoor target shooting contests at the Sears & Roebuck store in Hawthorn Mall, northern Illinois. He earned part of his childhood allowance by controlling the local population of destructive or diseased birds and rodents (50 cents for blackbirds, $1 for blue jays, and $2.50 for crows). At ten years old, he went on his first international hunt to the Baja Peninsula to hunt dove, an activity that is now prohibited. This experience ignited his passion for hunting.
Today, Jeff shares his love of hunting and fishing with his three children. Together, they have hunted and fished in Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, six Canadian provinces, and fifteen U.S. states. Domestically, they pursue a wide range of game, including dove, quail, pheasant, turkey, whitetail deer, sika deer, mule deer, black bear, pronghorn, elk, moose, reindeer, American bison, and nilgai. They also assist friends with feral hog control. Thirty-eight of the animals harvested are recorded in the SCI record book, with fifteen more submissions planned for later this year. Their grilling events in Washington, D.C., and now Utah, are renowned for exclusively serving non-store-bought meat.
Professionally, Jeff runs Jeffrey J. Kimbell & Associates, Inc., a boutique consulting firm with 20 employees that provides legislative solutions for clients in the life sciences sector, addressing issues related to product approval, coverage and reimbursement, marketing practices, and more. Founded in 1998, Kimbell & Associates represents 70 carefully selected clients globally in the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, provider services, and biodefense industries.
Jeff is also the Managing Partner of Magnum Entertainment Group, Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based entertainment and live music event company. Magnum has booked renowned artists such as ZZ Top, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Robert Earl Keen, Jack Ingram, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Drive-By Truckers, Vertical Horizon, Marshall Tucker Band, Super Diamond, Better Than Ezra, and Blues Traveler for 70 corporate clients. Additionally, Jeff is the Managing Director of Jackalope Real Estate, LLC, which owns luxury property rentals in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Washington, D.C.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, TX, Jeff earned his B.A. in Political Science. During his time at SMU, he worked for U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (R-TX), a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, which oversees tax, trade, and a significant portion of Medicare. Prior to SMU, Jeff graduated from St. George’s School in Newport, RI, where he later served as a trustee. He is raising his three children amidst the great outdoors of Park City, UT.
